Live Music Company DHP Family Brings Two Senior Women To The Board

Two senior colleagues have joined the board of DHP Family, the live music company behind a host of iconic live music venues, award-winning festivals and a thriving concerts business.

Julie Tippins becomes a non-executive director as she steps away from the Head of Risk role she originated after 15 years at the independent music company based in Nottingham.

Michele Somers joins the board as the new Director of Risk and Culture, taking up the mantle to put the safety and welfare of staff and customers at the heart of all company operations.

Julie began in the business at the University of Sheffield and began making a living as a DJ going on to become CEO at The Leadmill.  She launched the University of Lincoln’s live music venue the Engine Shed and its performing arts venue – LPAC.

During her time at DHP, she has led the industry in many new initiatives and was recently invited to 10 Downing Street to share her expertise. In April, Julie received the Chairman’s Award at NTIA Ambassadors Awards to recognise her significant contribution to the UK’s nighttime industry.

Michele has been at DHP Family for 16 years, previously working as Area Manager responsible for several venues before becoming Head of Risk & Culture in April 2025. Michele is also Chair of Nottingham Pubwatch and a NTIA Ambassador, playing an active role in improving the industry.

DHP MD George Akins said: “We’re delighted to welcome both Julie and Michele to the board. It’s wonderful to retain Julie’s considerable industry knowledge and experience, while Michele will be focusing on the most important element of our business, our people! We want our staff to thrive at work and will be looking at initiatives to improve wellbeing.”

DHP Family currently employs 400 people and counts Rock City, Rescue Rooms and The Bodega – crowned Music Week Grassroots Venue this year – in Nottingham; The Garage, and Oslo in London and Thekla in Bristol in its portfolio.

2024 saw a significant growth in the DHP concerts business, making it the 2nd best year to date in DHP history. The company averages around 1600 gigs annually across its venues and externally. The last decade has seen them deliver more than 15,000 live gigs, selling over 8m concert tickets in over 85 different cities and towns in the UK. Its festival roster adds another 350,000 admits.
