Oslo Launch

We are excited to announce a rescheduled opening weekend for our new London venue Oslo, commencing Friday 17 January 2014 launching with new weekly clubnight ‘Valhalla’.

The opening of Oslo was postponed due to the decision by Hackney Council to undertake urgent demolition work on nearby buildings following the partial collapse of a basement wall at a Victorian Terrace On Friday 22 November. Oslo suffered no structural damage and was declared safe but access to the site was restricted for a number of days. We would like to extend our thanks to all those who offered words of support during this time, and also express ongoing support for those commercial and residential occupants affected by the demolition.

Situated next door to Hackney Central on Amhurst Road, Oslo will be both a daytime hub to meet and greet – with food served all day – and a night time destination for socialising, eating and enjoying the best new music. Head Chef Dave Ahern (formerly of House of Wolf and Burger Breakout) has created the menu around the idea of presenting familiar flavours in unfamiliar combinations. The menu features modern interpretations of classic East End dishes. Many dishes also showcase the techniques of curing, smoking and pickling that are celebrated in Nordic cuisine. Food is designed to partner with craft ales from local breweries Redemption, The Five Point Brewing Company and Sambrook’s Brewery – as well as specially chosen wines, to offer an alternative eating experience.

Oslo will also serve as the perfect destination for live music and partying through to the early hours. Downstairs, weekend revelers will be treated to an eclectic mix of music played on vinyl to accompany late night eating and drinking. Expect to hear much-loved classics and new favourites as music aficionados select a specially crafted bar playlist. Upstairs, the forward-thinking programming will inject a new lease of life into the area’s music scene, with live music, regular club nights, and some of the UK’s most exciting promoters and artists on the bill.

Oslo’s programming and menu bring fresh ideas and energy to the area, whilst referencing the past within the historic building. Originally built by North London Railway Company, as a railway station in 1870, the two storey building was later used as a ticket office during World War II. It is the only surviving part of the original station, which was closed in 1970’s.

Our chairman, George Akins, has said “It’s great to be making an impact in East London. I’m looking forward to introducing Oslo as a place where good music, fantastic food and inventive drink menus come together to provide a great culinary, social and cultural experience. We’re delighted to have the opportunity to add something fantastic to the already amazing Hackney and East London music, food and nightlife mix. And, of course, it’s pleasing to reflect a bit of my Norwegian roots in the Oslo name and offering!”
