Oslo opening postponed

The decision by Hackney Borough Council to undertake urgent demolition work on buildings close to Oslo, our new food, drink and music hub at 1a Amhurst Road, has meant that we have had to postpone opening the new venue.

Although declared safe in itself, access to Oslo is currently not permitted as demolition work takes place on the nearby Victorian terrace at 1-5 Amhurst Road following the collapse of part of a basement wall on Friday 22 November.

Hackney Borough Council’s Health and Safety Executive inspected the site on Monday 25 November and has decided on at least partial demolition of the terrace. Scaffolding has also been erected around 1-5 Amhurst Road which blocks Oslo’s fire exits.

DHP is closely monitoring the situation and plans to open the venue as soon as possible. The company is not able to organise or announce a new opening date until it is given permission to access the venue once more by Hackney Borough Council.

In the meantime the previous official opening on Friday 6 December and events including gigs by Dry The River and Indiana have been postponed or rearranged to another venue. DHP Family will offer refunds and priority rebooking to existing ticket-holders in lieu of new dates being announced and fans are advised to check Oslo’s social media outlets (see below) for details.

George Akins, Owner, DHP Family, said:

“While first and foremost our concern is for the occupants of the flats and businesses that have been affected by the structural damage, we would like to clarify that there is no structural damage to Oslo.

“We have a number of events lined up this week but regrettably, due to matters beyond our control, these will have to be postponed while we await further news from Hackney Borough Council

“Please keep checking for further updates. We will advise of any changes to planned gigs as soon as possible.”
