Valhalla Hails Storming Opening Night at Oslo

Hackney’s new bar/club/live music venue ‘Oslo’ opened its doors on Friday (17 January) evening before with its weekly club night ‘Valhalla’ kicked off upstairs at 10pm with DJ host Nimrod Kramer and slots from Sex 99 and Billie JD Porter.

George Akins of DHP Family, the venue’s operator, said: “We had a storming opening night – the place was packed downstairs in the bar and upstairs for ‘Valhalla’ all the way through to 3am. We’ve brought something new to this part of London – great music, great food and great drink all in one place – and it’s gone down really well.”

“We’ve got gigs from Dry the River, Chrome Hoof and Indiana in the first few weeks as well as the NME Award Show in mid-February so we’re confident we can keep the momentum going and make Oslo one of the hottest venues in London.”

Situated next door to Hackney Central Station on Amhurst Road and with a capacity of up to 600 over two floors, Oslo delivers a ‘dark Nordic aesthetic’. The venue has been designed as both a daytime hub to meet and eat, and a night time destination for clubbing and taking in the best of new music.

Downstairs the extensive bar includes handpicked ales from local breweries such as Redemption, Five Point’s and Sambrook’s, alongside top quality wine and spirits, while the menu has been designed by Oslo head chef Dave Ahern, formerly of House of Wolf.

Upstairs hosts live music as well as Oslo’s flagship Friday night party ‘Valhalla’ – playing soul and disco classics through 90’s R’n’B and guitar driven cult hits from Talking Heads to TLC, Fleetwood Mac to Fugees, Paul Simon to Prince, Wu Tang Clan to Weezer.
